Essay Prompts
This page is dedicated to providing possible essay prompts that students may use to write their essays on in class or for practice for the AP exams. I believe it is important to allow for students to have a basis and basic platform to be able to write about their accumulated knowledge. I recognize that as a student it can sometimes be difficult to create a brand new prompt out of thin air, so I believe it is important to provide a number of basic prompts that can either be expanded upon or used directly.
- How was Cold War hysteria and propaganda portrayed in the culture of the mid-20th century?
- In what ways did the Union have advantages over the Confederacy and in which ways did the Confederacy have advantages over the Union during the Civil War?
- Different European nations had different goals in terms of their ventures in the New World. What was the main focus of the following different groups:
- France
- England
- Spain
- Dutch
- In what way did the Freedman's Bureau pave the way for more achievements in Civil Rights in the future? What were the main successes of the Freedman's Bureau?
- Have Civil Liberties been curtailed in the past in the name of National Security? What were these times? Are they applicable to modern history?
- Explain the birth the political party system in America.
- Explain how Containment Policy during the Truman Administration both worked and failed and where these examples occurred.
- Explain the connection between the 1st Red Scare and the decline of labor movements in the early 20th century.
